This pad was then programmed to work with the new 3-channel receiver. The older LiftMaster remote keypad located outside next to the garage door was also replaced with a LiftMaster 877M wireless keyless entry pad. We were not able to program an additional button on the HomeLink mirror in our 2011 335i, so bought a LiftMaster 811LM remote and programmed it to the 3-channel receiver to operate the garage door opener from the 335i We programed an additional button on the HomeLink mirror in our 2014 X5 to work with the 850LM receiver. Adding the 850LM allows you to use the newer LiftMaster remote controls that run on frequencies that are not as susceptible to the LED light interference. This setup allows the receiver inside the garage door opener to continue to function as before. A 2-wire cable from the 850LM to the inside button is connected in parallel with the same wire that goes on to the garage door opener. The 850LM was mounted just above the inside button that opens the garage door and plugged into a nearby electrical socket. This box will control up to 3 garage door openers.

We solved the problem by buying a LiftMaster 850LM '3-channel universal receiver' box for about $25 on Amazon. If the LEDs are ON, then the transmitters do not work to open the garage door. Since adding all the LED lamps, the remotes and HomeLink in our two BMWs work intermittently. We changed most all the lamps in the house light fixtures to LED lamps, including the outdoor lamps on either side of the garage door that are on the same circuit breaker as the opener. This LiftMaster has a PURPLE learn button. We recently moved to a house with a 2006 model LiftMaster garage door opener.

If it doesn't work after three attempts, redo this entire step again, starting with pressing the Learn button. Do that up to three times or until the opener activates. Quickly go back to your car (you only have 30 seconds) and press the HomeLink button you just programmed for 2 seconds and then release. It's usually under the light cover near the antenna.

Go to the Liftmaster opener and press the Learn or Smart button.

If it never goes to a rapid flash, you may need to redo this step after repositioning the remote or aiming it in a slightly different direction. At that point, your HomeLink button has been paired with the opener. Keep pressing both buttons until the HomeLink light on the mirror goes from a slow flash to a rapid flash and then release both buttons. The HomeLink light on the mirror should start slowly flashing after a few seconds. Hold the Liftmaster remote between the mirror and windshield and simultaneously press both the button on the remote and the HomeLink button you wish to program.

Pair your HomeLink to the Liftmaster using your Liftmaster remote.

Release once the light on the mirror starts to flash.

Clear out any current programming by pressing and holding the two outer HomeLink buttons for about 20 seconds.
